Search Engine Optimization – A Brief Introduction

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process to improve the visibility of a specific website or a webpage in search engines such as Google, Bing, MSN, Yahoo, and others. Searches could be natural or unpaid or can even be called as organic or algorithmic search results. It is the SEO after which one can see his/her site at the top pages of Google ranking or on first page of Google page.

There is a separate department for SEO where experts try to bring the site at the top pages of Google. Sites do not come at the front pages of the search results list, instead one has to put his efforts to bring those required work. SEO could target different types of searches such as local search, image search, academic search, video search, news search and others. It is an internet marketing strategy in which SEO guys work constantly into search engines so that they bring the required result where if people search online, they get the targeted sites first. It is a kind of competition on which the SEO expert has to work continuously to bring the site on ranking or on higher position. The actual search is done when a user types a keyword on the search box to find relevant data online. So, it is also about keywords on which the Search Engine Optimization team works day and night and brings the sites on good ranking through keywords.

Search Engine Optimizing started in the mid-1990s where webmasters and content providers started their journey to optimize websites for search engines. Earlier, all the webmasters had to submit the URL to different engines which then used to send a spider to crawl that page and the other processes are done. Later, this practice turned out to be a demand of all site owners who wanted that sites highly ranked, recognized and visible in search engine results. SEO techniques are classified into two broad categories which are called as white hat and black hat. White hat is the ethical part of SEO where all good and ethical manners are applied to get the result. On the other hand, black hat is the one in which SEO members apply all non-ethical methods or shortcuts to get quick results.

SEO is a broader term used to create good reputation of a website and can be done by those who know what and when the work has to be done.
